Storage Notes

The IBM FlashSystem 820 storage provides VM disk images for the System Under Test.
The 20 x 1 TB usable eMLC Flash (RAID5) is configured into fifteen x 1000GB logical disks for fifteen tiles, 1 x 35GB RAID5 logical disk for Virtual I/O Server.
Each 1000GB logical disk is used to create a LVM volume group.
The storage for each tile is allocated as a volume group. Six logical volumes are created in the tile's volume group, one for each VM in the tile.

Client Driver Notes

The Client Systems host one primary controller VM and fifteen primary client VMs all using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 for POWER. Clients VM images are provided from IBM DS4800 storage

Other Notes

PowerVM hypervisor has two components, IO virtualization is handled by Virtual IO server and the rest of the hypervisor functions are implemented in the firmware
Virtual IO server runs on its own virtual machine therefore it requires VM configuration
IBM Hardware Management Console version 8.1.0 appliance is used to configure all VMs
BNT 7309-HC3 (model-type) 10 Gb switch is configured to connect clients to the SUT
'chdev -l ent1 -a jumbo_frames=yes' is used to change MTU size
MTU size change is applied on each appserver, dbserver, webserver and infraserver VMs manually one time
IBM Hardware Management Console SRIOV panel is used to configure all SRIOV network port capacities
